Learning Outcome 1- Be able to organise a sports activity

You will be asked to upload your work at the end of each completed Learning Outcome. Evidence submitted will take the form of written evidence, such as reports or powerpoint presentations as well as Video Evidence of practical work.

You will be asked to plan and take part of a sports activity.

This task may seem a little daunting to start with, but consider the sports that you already have an interest in.

If you are part of a team or club, such as a football team or boxing club this will be a great start and will make it a little simpler for you to arrange your activity. Part of this unit will require you to work with others while planning, so it is encouraged that you speak with your coach, leader or sports organiser for help. Could you ask them if you can organise an activity within the group for example? Things like organising a venue, looking into legal responsibilities and insurance will be a lot easier for you as this should already be in place within your sporting club. You will need to draw on the expertise of others and this will be a great way to start. There are obvious limitations on a learner, potentially under the age of 16, obtaining insurance for example, so you will need to work with another organisation who could help you facilitate your activity. This doesn’t stop you from researching and learning all about these topics though, it just means that the overall legal responsibility will remain the responsibility of the club.

What if I am not part of a sports team, like a Rugby club or Martial Arts Club?

Don’t panic if you are not part of a sports team. It may seem like you have to organise a football match or tournament, but you could organise something a little different or on a smaller scale.

For example, if you are keen on going to the gym, you could organise an activity where a group of people compete in a timed rowing race, where peoples best times are recorded, while rowing a set distance or if you are part of a horse riding club, you could record the number of full laps completed on a designated course within a set period of time?

By reaching out to these organisations you hopefully will be able to liaise with people to help co-organise with you, such as the gym manager or the manger of the stables within this example.
