1.3 Demonstrate the ability to work with others in planning and organising the sports activity

Watch the video presentation below.

How to plan and organise with others a competitive sports activity.

Demonstrate the ability to work with others in planning and organising the sports activity.

This section is all about collecting evidence of how you have worked with others during the planning of your activity, not to be confused with the taking part of your planned sporting activity. This could be a coach, instructor, a person knowledgable of the sport or parent.

It is a requirement that you will work with others to organise your competitive sports activity. Good team work is all about working collaboratively with others to achieve agreed goals, adapting to changing circumstances and taking responsibility for how what you do and say impacts on other members of the team.

Team workers: Skills, behaviours and personal qualities.

Good team workers:

  • Collaborate with others to work towards common goals.
  • Reach agreements by managing discussions to achieve results.
  • Adapt behaviour to suit different roles and situations, including leadership roles.
  • Show fairness and consideration to others.
  • Take responsibility, showing confidence in themselves and their contribution.
  • Provide constructive support and feedback to others.  So, when you are planning your activity make sure that everyone on your team has a role and they know what their responsibilities are. Decide how frequently you are going to meet to discuss the activity and keep notes of the issues that are discussed, the decisions that are made and the tasks that people agree to go away and do.

Gather evidence and demonstrate how you have planned and organised with others a competitive sports activity.

Make sure you collect evidence as you go.

Think about who you could liaise with during the planning of your activity. This could be:

  • A coach, instructor or teacher of the sport
  • An expert of the sport
  • A peer or team member
  • The venue manager and/or risk assessment officer
  • A parent or your adult facilitator of your course

You will need to collect evidence to show that you have met this grading criteria and submit it with your assignment. Here’s a list of documentation you could include:

  • A report, documenting all your conversations with others and photographic evidence of these taking place.
  • Email chains or text message conversations.
  • Meeting notes or logs evidencing discussions had.
  • Outcomes from meetings held, such as action plans or ‘to do’ lists created, which are allocated to specific people.
  • Diary of events, such as planning meetings and discussions, showing when, where, what.
  • Video evidence of meetings taking place and/or audio showing your ability of working with others.
  • Photo evidence of meetings.
  • A written conclusion of the outcomes from these discussions with others.

You will be able to add a maximum of four individual pieces of evidence to the learning platform, so group media types together. For example, put all photos together in one document for uploading or add all written work together in one document. If adding video evidence, this should be NO LONGER than 10 mins long, so think about cropping evidence in order to submit the important evidence.

Grading Descriptors. This will explain what you need to do in order to achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
