Course Overview

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification provides learners with an understanding of the sports sector to either start a career in sport, leisure or fitness, or to progress within employment in the sector. It may also be applicable for those in an entry level role who would like to further their understanding and progress to the next level of employment or learning.

It would be useful for the learner to belong to a club or team for unit 1, although this isn’t strictly necessary, it would ensure the first unit of the course be a little more straight forward.

The objectives of this qualification are to help learners to:

  • progress into higher or further education
  • progress to NCFE level 3 sport qualifications
  • gain and develop essential skills valued by employers and higher and further education institutions
  • develop knowledge and understanding of the sport, leisure and fitness vocational sector

To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully complete 4 units.

This course is specifically for the Sport, Exercise and Fitness pathway:

  • Participating in sport
  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise
  • Introduction to healthy exercise and nutrition
  • Preparing to work in the sport and leisure industry

This pathway will provide learners with the opportunity to develop their practical skills in sport, through organising and participating in sports activities. They will be able to work with others to plan and participate in a sports activity, and they will evaluate their own performance and the performance of others following the activity. Learners will gain the required knowledge and understanding of sport rules and regulations.

Who is this qualification designed for?

It is an engaging qualification, which is useful for those previously disaffected with learning and can provide a supportive progression route into further learning or employment. This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop skills and knowledge about sport and is ideal for learners who are looking to progress onto further learning in this sector.
