We’ve gathered some of the most common questions we’re asked by home-educating families, EOTAS teams and learners who are exploring our creative and vocational courses.
If you don’t see your question here, please feel free to get in touch, as we’re always happy to help.
Are they accredited qualifications?
Yes! All Aced Qualifications courses are fully accredited by NCFE, one of the UK’s largest technical and vocational awarding bodies.
Each qualification is registered on the Ofqual Framework, meaning they’re nationally recognised and carry an official qualification number.
Learners receive an NCFE certificate on successful completion — not a “course of attendance”, but a formal qualification that colleges and employers recognise.
Are they equivalent to GCSEs?
Our qualifications are GCSE-equivalent in size and level.
For example:
Level 2 Art & Design and Sport (24 credits each) are roughly comparable to two GCSEs.
Level 2 Photography (16 credits) is comparable to one GCSE.
Level 1 Graphic Design (10 credits) is similar in size to one GCSE at Grades 1-3 / D–G.
Colleges often accept them in place of GCSE options when applying for Level 3 study.
Why study a Level 2 and not GCSE for creative and vocational courses?
GCSEs in creative subjects often rely on controlled assessments or exam-centre access, which can be difficult for home-educated learners.
Our NCFE Level 2 courses give learners the same level of recognition, but through portfolio-based assessment instead of exams.
This means:
No pressure of timed tests
No need to attend an exam centre
A chance to explore personal creative interests and build genuine practical skills
It’s a recognised, flexible and empowering route that’s ideal for learners who thrive in hands-on, creative environments.
Do I have to wait to enrol?
No waiting lists here!
Our courses are open-enrolment, meaning you can start at any time of year.
Once enrolled, you’ll receive your log-in details for our online learning portal and can begin your first module straight away.
I enjoy the subject but I’m a beginner. Would this be suitable for me?
Absolutely. Our courses are designed to guide learners step by step, from beginner through to confident creator.
Each module includes tutorials, examples, and supportive feedback from your assessor.
Many of our learners start as beginners — they just have curiosity, creativity, and the desire to learn.
What are they worth? Do they have a credit value and what does that mean?
Every qualification carries a Credit Value on the Ofqual Framework.
One credit equals roughly 10 hours of learning time, so you can estimate the course length by multiplying the credits by 10.
For example:
24 credits ≈ 240 hours (about 2 GCSEs’ worth of study)
16 credits ≈ 160 hours (about 1 GCSE’s worth)
This helps colleges and employers understand the size of the qualification and the level of work completed.
I’m not sure about the commitment to the course. What if it’s not right for me?
That’s completely understandable.
We offer a 14-day cooling-off period on our “Buy Now” option, so you can start exploring and make sure the course feels like a good fit.
If you’re on a subscription plan, you can pause or cancel at any time if your circumstances change, as we believe flexibility matters.
I need help. Do I get any support?
Yes, and it’s one of the parts we’re most proud of!
After each module you’ll receive detailed, constructive feedback explaining what you’ve done well and how you can develop further.
Our approach is all about confidence-building and progression, not red-pen marking.
Learners can also resubmit work to improve their grade if they wish.
I was going to sign up for a one-year course, but if my circumstances change, can I take longer?
Yes, absolutely.
Although each course is designed to be completed in around one to two years, you automatically receive an extra 12 months of access and support at no additional cost.
We know that life doesn’t always follow a timetable, so you’ll never lose your progress or your place.
I’ve signed up for a two-year payment plan. What happens after two years?
Once your payment plan is complete, there’s nothing else to pay.
If you need longer to finish your work, your access to the online platform and assessor support continues for up to 12 months beyond your planned timescale.
You can take that time without any extra fees.
Can adults enrol too?
Yes! Our courses are open to learners of all ages.
While most of our community is home-educated or EOTAS learners aged 12-16, we also have adult learners completing the same accredited qualifications to develop their skills or portfolios.
Do I need any special software or equipment?
Not really, we try to keep everything as accessible as possible.
You’ll need:
A device (computer or laptop) with internet access
A camera or camera-phone (for Photography and Art projects and recording practical activities for Sport)
Access to Canva (for Graphic Design) or Abobe Photoshop/Photopea- free substitute for Photoshop (for Photography) — both with tutorials included
Many materials can be adapted to what you already have at home.
How is the course assessed?
All assessment is done digitally, through your portfolio of evidence.
This might include photos of your work, scanned pages, video demonstrations or written reflections.
Your assessor checks each unit against NCFE criteria and provides feedback until all requirements are met.
How do I book or enrol?
Simply visit our website acedqualifications.co.uk, choose your course, and click “Book Now”.
You can pay in full or set up a monthly plan directly from the site.
Once your booking is confirmed, you’ll receive your welcome email and access details for the learner portal.
What happens when I finish my course?
When all units are completed and verified by your assessor, we submit your portfolio to NCFE for moderation.
Because Aced holds Direct Claim Status, this means we can certificate your achievement at any point in the year — no waiting for exam windows.
You’ll receive your official NCFE certificate in the post shortly after.
Do colleges and employers recognise Aced Qualifications?
Yes — our learners have successfully progressed to college-level study, apprenticeships and creative employment routes.
Because NCFE qualifications are Ofqual-regulated, they appear on the same government database used by schools and colleges when checking entry requirements.
Can my learner use this towards an EHCP or EOTAS plan?
Many of our learners do.
Our courses are often used as part of an EHCP provision, as they’re fully accredited and can be delivered flexibly online.
We can provide course outlines, qualification numbers and evidence requirements to local authorities if needed.
Do you have live lessons or fixed class times?
No set times.
All lessons are pre-recorded tutorials and project booklets, so learners can work when it suits them.
That flexibility is ideal for families managing health needs, travel, or varying schedules.
What makes Aced different?
We’re a small provider with a big heart.
Every course is designed to be accessible, creative and genuinely encouraging — with no exams, no pressure, and lots of personal feedback.
Our focus is on helping learners rediscover confidence, independence and pride in their work.
